Diploma of Remedial Massage

Advanced Dry Needling
Bio:
Ann graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Health Science in Musculoskeletal Therapy (Myotherapy) after completing a Diploma of Remedial Massage in 2009.
Since graduating Ann has worked with a broad range of clients including Olympians, triathletes, marathon runners, and those with conditions such as Parkinson's and Multiple Sclerosis.
The majority of her clients, though, are people like her, doing their best to stay fit and healthy but occasionally needing help with an injury or a painful neck or hip that just won't 'come good'.
Having suffered a serious back injury in 2003 which caused immense pain and neuromuscular weakness, Ann is aware of how debilitating physical conditions can be and will work with you to regain strength, functional movement, and confidence in your body.
What is Myotherapy ?
Myotherapy is the assessment, treatment, and management of musculoskeletal pain. Myotherapy builds from a base of remedial massage but is a stand alone qualification, either a 3 year Bachelor of Health Science degree or an Advanced Diploma.
Myotherapists are known for a strong focus on, and excellent use of, hands-on techniques to release muscle tension and improve the mobility in muscles and soft tissue. Ann uses a variety of manual therapy techniques during treatment such as joint mobilisation, dry needling, massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial cupping and rehabilitative exercise.
So, what will Ann actually do?
Myotherapists assess your needs through muscle, joint and neural testing to identify the cause of the pain or dysfunction and will provide information on your individual needs so you are able to take control. We work with our clients, not on them. She will then go on to utilise those hands-on techniques to treat you, working on your presenting condition for better movement and pain relief. Finally, she will give you information on your individual needs, so that you are able to take control.
Myotherapy is:
Non-invasive
Evidence-based
An effective treatment of acute or persisting conditions, as well as being a preventative treatment to keep you well.
Myotherapy assists clients with issues such as:
Back, neck & shoulder pain
Headaches
Rotator cuff problems
Occupational injuries
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and jaw pain
Neurological conditions (pins and needles, etc)
Stiffness and soreness
Chronic pain
Dry Needling
Dry needling involves the insertion of single use, fine mono filament needles (Acupuncture needles) into the skin and underlying muscles. It is generally aimed at myofascial trigger points which are hyper-irritable spots in muscles.
Dry needling can reduce local and referred pain, restore range of motion and normalise the chemical environment of active trigger points. Dry needling is both a safe and effective treatment when practised by qualified professionals.
Dry needling and acupuncture differ in philosophies and techniques. Where dry needling is used to resolve muscle tension and trigger points, acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine and works to stimulate and balance the flow of qi along meridians.
Dry needling was a substantial part of the final year of the myotherapy degree. Ann also has further Advanced and Master Class dry needling training.
